Life and Death

The tree frog feeds on insects and other small invertebrates.

They are usually found on small trees or shrubs near shallow bodies of water.

They reach sexual mautrity at the age of 2 and from then can live up to 9 years old.

That's Amazing

  • The gray tree frog is the largest tree frog species in Ontario.
  • Although, they are usually very well camouflaged, they have a bright patch on the inside of their legs which they flash when they jump in order to startle others.
  • Tree frogs have developed adhesive disks on their feet in order to stick to trees and such.
  • Tree frogs are one type of amphibian that makes its own antifreeze in the winter in order to prevent its cells from rupturing.  With this mechanism, this frog can survive even if its heart stops.
